I Am Incredibly Touched by the Kindness of the People on Medium

Coming from TikTok and Instagram, which are highly infested with internet trolls and keyboard warriors. It has been refreshing and delightful to spend time on an app where there many wonderful and gifted writers who love and support one another.

I have always enjoyed reading and writing, yet, I tend to be very sceptical of publishing any of my writing. I have dyslexia — which means my writing isn’t always perfect. I also sometimes struggle with spelling, punctuation and grammar which can often be reflected in my writing.

I remember my teachers in school not having hope in my writing. When I was 8 years old, I wrote a story which I was very proud of. My teacher looked at it and asked me “Did you even read what you wrote, Layla?”, I remember tears rolling down my eyes as I had read it over many times. The teacher just couldn’t understand it because of the mistakes there were in my work.

I have of course come a long way since then but doubts always emerge before I share my work with anyone or I hit that green ‘publish’ button at the top of my screen. It’s almost as if I can hear that teacher’s voice again.
