A poem

Food, oh food, what a wonderful sight
Deep emotions inside me, you truly ignite.
There is nothing in this world I would rather be doing
Than smelling steak, biting into it then chewing.

You are more than just a smell, a taste or a bite
You are sheer happiness and pure delight.

Eating alone or with a group
Sharing bread or slurping soup
Frying eggs or toasting bread
Laying fruits neatly on a spread

Oh, food, you are more than a human need
You are a sacred, eternal bond, indeed.

The golden crust of an apple pie, so warm
A chicken burrito filled in the perfect form
From street carts to fine dining
You unite us all and keep us smiling.

Oh, beloved food, both feast and fare,
A gift to Earth, beyond compare.
You bless our plates with colours bright,
You solve our problems, making everything all right.

Each crumb tells a story, each bite sings a song,
Each meal takes us to where we belong.

So let us savour each bite we take,
With gratitude to those who bake,
To those who cook, and those who feed
To those who share their food with others in need.

Oh, fantastic food, you are a sacred thread,
That binds the living, the hungry and the fed.

An Ode Poem is a lyric poem, typically one in the form of an address to a particular subject, written in varied or irregular form. Odes are often classic poems that are meant to be sung.

I was inspired to write this Ode simply because of my love of food and cooking. I have always believed that food brings people together and I grew up in an African household where our parents used food and feeding as a form of expression of their love. Food is and can be a powerful way to bring you, excitement and laughter and unite loved ones.
